El Consolidated OA-10A Manutara ocupa un lugar singular dentro del patrimonio aeronáutico chileno. Más allá de su conocida participación en la historia de las comunicaciones con Rapa Nui y sus vuelos australes representa una etapa relevante del desarrollo de la aviación nacional y del empleo de aeronaves anfibias en uno de los territorios más aislados del planeta.
Esta publicación inaugura la serie RECON y reúne en un solo volumen una recopilación de antecedentes históricos de una manera sintetizada y fluída con la incorporación de fotografías de detalle, imágenes de época y documentación gráfica obtenida gracias a las facilidades otorgadas por el Museo Nacional Aeronáutico y del Espacio. A lo largo de más de un centenar de páginas, el lector y el modelista encontrarán cientos de fotografías que documentan prácticamente todos los sectores visibles de la aeronave, además de información relativa a marcas, inscripciones, heráldica, configuraciones y otros aspectos que no es frecuente encontrar.
Para el modelista, la obra constituye una valiosa fuente de consulta. La cantidad y variedad del material gráfico permiten estudiar estructuras, acabados, equipamiento y numerosos detalles constructivos con un nivel de profundidad poco habitual. Del mismo modo, la recopilación de esquemas, emblemas y variaciones observadas en los OA-10 y PBY operados por la Fuerza Aérea de Chile aporta antecedentes de utilidad para la realización de modelos históricamente documentados.
El libro se pone a disposición de la comunidad de manera gratuita con el propósito de contribuir a la difusión, estudio y preservación de este importante testimonio de la historia aeronáutica nacional. The Consolidated OA-10A Manutara holds a unique place in Chile’s aviation heritage. Beyond its well-known role in the history of communications with Rapa Nui and its flights to the south, it represents a significant milestone in the development of Chilean aviation and in the use of amphibious aircraft in one of the most isolated territories on the planet.
This publication launches the RECON series and brings together in a single volume a concise and fluid compilation of historical background, featuring detailed photographs, period images, and graphic documentation provided through the collaboration of the National Aeronautical and Space Museum. Throughout more than a hundred pages, readers and modelers will find hundreds of photographs documenting virtually every visible part of the aircraft, as well as information regarding markings, inscriptions, heraldry, configurations, and other aspects that are rarely found.
For modelers, this work constitutes a valuable reference source. The quantity and variety of the graphic material allow for the study of structures, finishes, equipment, and numerous construction details with an unusual level of depth. Similarly, the compilation of diagrams, emblems, and variations observed in the OA-10s and PBYs operated by the Chilean Air Force provides useful background information for the creation of historically accurate models.
